March 24 (The Sports Xchange) - The New York Yankees have a lot to consider as Opening Day approaches. The health of shortstop Derek Jeter and pitcher Mariano Rivera may be their top concerns, but they are also close to signing outfielder Vernon Wells. New York expects to begin the season with Jeter on the disabled list. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said he hopes Jeter will be able to return by April 6 against Detroit, the fifth game of the season.
