COMMENTARY | Major League Baseball is not like the NFL where player contracts aren't always worth the price of the toilet paper on which they are written. In the MLB, if a player signs a contract for $250 million then the team is generally on the hook for the full ¼ of $1 billion. Thanks to the Atlanta Braves signing B.J. Upton to the most lucrative deal in franchise history, fans can now look forward to a long, long future of Upton clogging up the balance sheet.
