The dog days of summer look to be going out with a bang in NYC as we will be in the grips of another heat wave just to top off one of the hottest summers in NYC history and for Mets fans, it’s just more month of uninspiring baseball before we get to see what changes will be made in Flushing.

Seeing that Johan Santana spots an 8.03 ERA in the first inning of his starts, maybe on his days to pitch, the strategy should be reversed, have the closer pitch the first inning then let Santana work innings 2-8.

R.I.P. Calvin Coolidge Julius Caesar Tuskahoma McLish

Congratulations to Wally Backman (future manager of the NY Mets) and his Brooklyn Cyclones on clinching the McNamara Division of the NY-PENN League.

Why do I have a feeling my football season is going to suck as bad as my baseball season.

Go get em Rapid Robert, at 91 Bob Feller is still tough as nails get well soon

That’s about it, Mets blogging ain’t as much fun as it used to be

Talk about Groundhog Day, how many times can I sit here and go over the same old shit about the Mets, but I’ll a try:

I wonder if Pat Misch sat at his locker last night and pondered, “You know Buffalo isn’t so bad, at least they score runs” Another nice effort out of Misch goes for naught after Carlos Lee blasted a cannon shot to left field and a 2-0 Mets lead became a 3-2 Astros win. Drive home safe everybody.

“We have to do what we’ve been talking about all of the time, we have to do more offensively. We’ve got to find a way to get that done. I mean, that’s poor. That’s a very poor effort on our part offensively… We have to do better. Period. It’s pathetic. We have to do better.”

~ Jerry Manuel, after tonight’s loss

Asked whose approach he did like at the plate tonight, Manuel shrugged and said, ‘maybe Misch, with that hit with two strikes.’

Welcome to our world Jerry.

Switching gears for a moment, I will be joining Frank Maniscalco this Sunday and every other Sunday during the football season on NY SPORTS BLOG RADIO on the BLOG TALK RADIO NETWORK.  Don’t forget about my No PSL Required Fantasy Football Team, we have a few spots left.

In the aftermath of the Fransisco Rodriquez beat down of his baby’s moma’s Papi (huh?) the Skill Sets have put the rest of the team under house arrest. Talk about a picture says a thousand words.

As a NY Football Giants fan, my main enjoyment this past weekend should be that the Dallas Cowgirls choked again in the NFL post season (how about a great big Kranepool Society FUCK YOU to Jerry Jones the owner of the Cowgirls and how about that fat fuck Flozell Adams, left a playoff game with a boo-boo on his calf, fucking coward!) but in fact I am actually happy with the Jets winning yesterday in San Diego.

The Giants fans-Jets fan relationship is strange by New York sports fan standards. As a NY Ranger fan, I hate the Icelanders immensely (da-da-da-dada da-da-da-dada da-da-da-dada da-da-da POTVIN SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!) and as most local hockey fans, I’m blasé about the K.C. Scouts/Colorado Rockies/NJ Devils. They only player well known in Newark is their over weight and overrated goaltender. As a Boston Cletics fan the good thing about having the Knicks and Nets around is I get to see the C’s in person four times a year. As for the Bronx Bastards, the hatred between us and them is well documented. But as far as Giants-Jets fans go, we just go about our business come football season.

I got wrapped up the Jets game yesterday because the style of football they play is the antithesis of what the NFL is all about these days and a style I love. It’s all about spread offenses and quarterbacks throwing 35 times a game Wildcat formation (which is a basic Pop Warner offense) and high flying wide outs and games in domes under controlled climates but then here come the Jets with a page out of” simple still works” playbook. Pound the ball on offense, control the clock, have your QB mange the game and not have to make a big play, then on defense attack the line of scrimmage like a jail break and make the QB as uncomfortable in the pocket as you can, hit the wide outs hard early to get them out of their rhythm . Add in a few turnovers and you have a wining formula.

During the season Jets coach Rex Ryan annoyed me with his big mouth and bluster. The reason being I was so used to the Same Old Jets who are great in April on Draft Day and then again in August in games that don’t count in the standings but then come the regular season, well Same Old Jets. But Ryan has taken that Same Old Jets stigma and turned it into a positive, a rallying cry. Last night on the SNY Jets Post Game show the played a clip of Ryan and his team in their jubilant locker room. Ryan gathered his team around him and said something that has converted me to be a Rex Ryan fan:

“ok fella’s listen up, great game today, great effort and you should be proud of everything you’ve accomplished so far. But tomorrow the headline in the papers will be THREE FIRST PLACE TEAM ADVANCE……..AND THE FUCKIN’ JETS”

With that his players roared in delight. This is Rex Ryan’ team  and the story of the Jets season so far is an unbelievable one and as crazy as this sounds from a Giants fan, I hope they win the Fuckin’ Super Bowl.

Not much to say today other than to thank the New York Football Giants for ending the NFL season for us Giants fans last night with that embarrassing display. For the first time in his Giants Head Coaching tenure, Tom Coughlin looked lost on the sidelines as he teams playoff hopes went down the drain. Not to worry Giants fans help on the offensive side is on the way as Charlie Weiss will be back in E. Rutherford as the OC.

Big tip of the Blue Mets Cap to Shannon Shark at Met Police for the first released pictures of the new, old, same Mets pinstriped jersey that looks exactly as the one I bought three years ago that hangs in my closet.

Hopefully some time today I will see this jersey up close and personnel as the plan was to up and out by 9AM for Christmas shopping but my daughter has decided to engage in a marathon sleeping session so our attack of the Paramus Mall is on hold.

Oh well, with the football season done here in NY , I guess all we can look forward to is the big Elmer Dessens press conference to announce his re-signing .

Tim Redding had another strong start today this time against the juggernaut known as the Washington Nationals. Redding went seven innings giving up two runs just one of them earned to bring his record to 3-6

Two of the three runs were knocked in by Daniel Murphy who if anything has shown an intangible of mental toughness. You can mock that all you want but think about how Murph has not had the best of weeks on the field but still has been able to put it behind him and play some good baseball. Yes I know his OBP is still woeful but cut a little slack here haters please. I guarantee you there are GM’s out there hoping the Mets screw this up and look to deal Murphy for a utility infielder.

Dear Carlos Delgado,

Sorry to hear about your set back in rehabbing from your hip surgery. Hope you get well soon and find an American League team to your liking for 2010

Sincerely,

The Eddie Kranepool Society

If any player should be given praise in this month of doom it’s Jeff Francoeur who is still busting his ass and playing hard. Sometimes we forget guys like Frenchy, D-Wright, Carlos Beltran who still have some pride.

Not for anything as this could be construed like a pimple on an elephants ass but why wasn’t Wilson Valdez playing more? Anderson Hernandez is a shell of his former Mets self where as Valdez has shown nice range and a good arm at short.

So with the Mets tanking and the football season under way I will be contributing some columns at NY Football Blog. Check out my first post under my football handle Mel Hein.
