As a NY Football Giants fan, my main enjoyment this past weekend should be that the Dallas Cowgirls choked again in the NFL post season (how about a great big Kranepool Society FUCK YOU to Jerry Jones the owner of the Cowgirls and how about that fat fuck Flozell Adams, left a playoff game with a boo-boo on his calf, fucking coward!) but in fact I am actually happy with the Jets winning yesterday in San Diego.

The Giants fans-Jets fan relationship is strange by New York sports fan standards. As a NY Ranger fan, I hate the Icelanders immensely (da-da-da-dada da-da-da-dada da-da-da-dada da-da-da POTVIN SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!) and as most local hockey fans, I’m blasé about the K.C. Scouts/Colorado Rockies/NJ Devils. They only player well known in Newark is their over weight and overrated goaltender. As a Boston Cletics fan the good thing about having the Knicks and Nets around is I get to see the C’s in person four times a year. As for the Bronx Bastards, the hatred between us and them is well documented. But as far as Giants-Jets fans go, we just go about our business come football season.

I got wrapped up the Jets game yesterday because the style of football they play is the antithesis of what the NFL is all about these days and a style I love. It’s all about spread offenses and quarterbacks throwing 35 times a game Wildcat formation (which is a basic Pop Warner offense) and high flying wide outs and games in domes under controlled climates but then here come the Jets with a page out of” simple still works” playbook. Pound the ball on offense, control the clock, have your QB mange the game and not have to make a big play, then on defense attack the line of scrimmage like a jail break and make the QB as uncomfortable in the pocket as you can, hit the wide outs hard early to get them out of their rhythm . Add in a few turnovers and you have a wining formula.

During the season Jets coach Rex Ryan annoyed me with his big mouth and bluster. The reason being I was so used to the Same Old Jets who are great in April on Draft Day and then again in August in games that don’t count in the standings but then come the regular season, well Same Old Jets. But Ryan has taken that Same Old Jets stigma and turned it into a positive, a rallying cry. Last night on the SNY Jets Post Game show the played a clip of Ryan and his team in their jubilant locker room. Ryan gathered his team around him and said something that has converted me to be a Rex Ryan fan:

“ok fella’s listen up, great game today, great effort and you should be proud of everything you’ve accomplished so far. But tomorrow the headline in the papers will be THREE FIRST PLACE TEAM ADVANCE……..AND THE FUCKIN’ JETS”

With that his players roared in delight. This is Rex Ryan’ team and the story of the Jets season so far is an unbelievable one and as crazy as this sounds from a Giants fan, I hope they win the Fuckin’ Super Bowl.

Are the Mets married to the mob? A story in today’s NY Post links a bunch of companies that were hired by the Skill Sets to work on $iti Field that have unsavory connections. He can try all he wants, but Jeffey Wilpon will never be a “made man”.

Speaking of my buddy Jeffey, it looks like he is pushing hard to get the NHL Winter Classic for $iti Field next January. I am so on board with this idea that I am willing to burry the hatchet, (not in your back Jeffey, don’t worry) to promote this event at $iti Field any way I can. For the game to have any cache, it must have the NY Rangers in it of course, but who should be the Blueshirts opponent? Forget about the Islanders or Devils being in it, although a three team playing each other over the Christmas/ New Years break with matinee games should be something the NHL looks to do but if you could over look the fact that I bleed Ranger Blue, no one cares enough about the Isles or Devils for them to make an attractive opponent for hockey fans outside the NYC limits. The other five of the Original 6 teams have already played in the classic and it seems the NHL kept the Rangers out if this series so they could host the NYC event so I’m looking at Rangers-Capitals in $iti Field on 1-1-11. The Great 8 vs. The Terrific 10. By the way, Highlander Stadium seems to be out of the running for this event as their management has decided to host a College Football Bowl game during the time it would take to build a rink in the ball park. Unless they are getting Notre Dame to play in that game, folks around here won’t give a rat’s ass about the game. Everyone will be in Flushing at the Winter Classic. Me and Jeffey doing our Blades of Glory routine YAAAA-HOOOO !!!!!!!!!!!!

So while most Mets fans await the Jason Bay coronation sometime this week , please wake me up when a pitcher of some major league magnitude shows up in Flushing.

Don’t forget I will be on with Frankie The Sports guy tonight on AM 1240 WGBB on Long Island and also on Blog Talk Radio. I’m scheduled to be on at 10:25 PM

One of the Mets sites I check on a regular basis is Mack’s Mets. I checked out his latest post today and I was relived to see I’m not the only one who feels helpless every day trying to write something about the Mets.

To tell you the truth, I pretty much sick and tired about reading about Matt Holiday, Roy Halladay , John Lackey and most of all Orlando Hudson. Let me say this if you think O-Hudson is the answer as an up grade at second base on as a so called leader in the words of Mike Francesa “Yer Lawst”

The more reports I read the more pessimistic I get about the 2010 season and it all comes back to the ownership/management of this team. As Mets fans I feel we must get it through our heads that the Mets will not contend for a post season berth in 2010. You hear people in sports say that teams take on the persona of its manager or head coach, well the Mets have taken on the persona of its ownership, weak, clueless and a lack of guts.

You all know my distain for Jeffey Wilpon and after reading “The Road to Hockeytown” by Jimmy Devellano, my disgust about the ownership of the Mets has increased.

For those of you are not hockey fans, Jimmy D is one of the best scouts/ front office men in NHL history. He started out as an unpaid scout for the then expansion St Louis Blues and worked his way to head scout of the NY Islanders and worked with Bill Torrey to build the Islander dynasty and then went on to become the GM of the Detroit Red Wings and lead them back into NHL Stanley Cup Champions. In his career Jimmy D was responsible for the personnel of 7 Stanley Cup Winners.

The one place where Devellano felt was a lost opportunity to win was in St. Louis. The Blues at the time were managed by Lynn Partick and Scotty Bowman, two hockey legends but the reason why in Jimmy D’s view the Blues didn’t win the Cup was due to Sid Solomon III, the son of the Blues owner Sid Solomon. Here is Devellano’ view of life with a son who knows nothing about a sports team he inherited:

{When I first got to St. Louis in 1967 there were two pretty good hockey people already there, by the names of Lynn Patrick and Scotty Bowman.

That St. Louis Blues team might have one day become a great organization and the Blues might have eventually won Stanley Cups after starting with two fine hockey people like that. Who knows, they could have had a dynasty there after the great start they had in their first three seasons.

But unfortunately, the owners son, Sid Solomon III, while a very nice guy, was awfully involved with the hockey club and was an awful meddler. We couldn’t keep mangers and coaches like Scotty Bowman because of his constant meddling. Sid was a good but he wasn’t a hockey person. He just didn’t know hockey. How could he have? He made his money in the insurance business, not the hockey business. He didn’t have a feel for the game.

His interference caused a lot of turmoil in St. Louis. They couldn’t retain good people they had in place, like Bowman an (Al) Arbour and it cost them dearly. The Solomons eventually lost their team through bankruptcy and that didn’t need to happen}

Is that not the Mets? Is Jeffey not Sid the IV? It’s not just Jeffey, I am totally sick and tired of David Howard, who really needs a heaping plate full of Shut the Fuck Up.

The Skill Sets have been very successful in the real estate world that’s what they are good at but when it comes to running a baseball team they are an out and out disaster. They have no clue on how to build a team and they have absolutely no people skills (I should call them the Non-Skill Sets) in other words they are not the Mets but the Mess.

This Mets team has a ton of holes. Starting pitching is the biggest followed by a strong defensive catcher, a big corner bat and a solid second baseman. The injuries of last season are a smoke screen to what this team needs to get back to being a contender. Even with a healthy Jose Reyes, Carlos Beltran, Johan Santana and a rejuvenated David Wright, this team still has no grasp of the fundamentals of baseball and a lack of physical and metal toughness. If you were a major league free agent why would you want to play for the Mets?

Maybe the best move the Mets could make this winter is to put up a for sale sign.
