Are you a Mets fan that feels down and out with this awful season? Well, you’re not alone my friend as there are plenty of other Disciples of the Blue and Orange that feel the same way. At a time like this you should not be alone with your depressing thoughts and that is why Greg Prince of Faith and Fear in Flushing and Jon Springer of Mets By The Numbers are the Mets fans Samaritans and have put together AMAZIN’ TUESDAYS at TWO BOOTS RESTAURANT (384 Grand St Manhattan) to soothe our souls and fill our bellies with beer and pizza and talk about our favorite baseball team and maybe plan a coup of $iti Field (well maybe not a coup but after a few cold Rheingold’s who knows what could happen)

So come out this Tuesday Night July 21^st at 7PM for the first installment of AMAZIN’ TUESDAY believe you need to get out and you’ll feel better for it.

I will have a longer post on this tomorrow (hopefully both my kids have soccer games so I’ll try) but today my son and I made our maiden voyage to $iti Field and I’ll just say it was better than I expected. I admit I went in with a bit of reluctence as I’m trying to hold on to the Spirt of Shea but I’ll say this when I walked into the Jackie Robinson Rotunda (I pronounce it RA-TUN-DUH ) I was smitten.

I then met up with glitterari of Mets fandom and blogdom. Charley Hagerly, Taryn Cooper, Zoe Rice, Greg Prince, Mike Silva his brother Chris and From SNY/Bronx Banter Alex Bleth

I’ll just leave you with this quick thought on $iti. It has some flaws. Flaws that can be corrected and it will take a bit to get used to. There are things that annoyed me and things that were great about the place and I’ll go into detail on that tomorrow.

When the 7 train pulled up to the Shea, errrrrr Mets/Willets Point Station I go a bit weak in the knees seeing a pile of rumble that we used to call home but then I saw the shinny new house and I said to myself time to let it go move on I think we all should Move On it’s a new era in Mets baseball

2009 METS ANNUAL FROM MAPLE STREET PRESS

Every spring there are loads of baseball annuals at the newsstand but if you are a die hard Mets fan you need to pick up the 2009 Mets Annual published by Maple Street Press.

The Annual is chock full of information for every Mets fans taste. You like numbers? There are your basic stats and there are in depth numbers like pitch selection and hit placement all from the Inside Edge scouting service. There are articles on Shea Staduim and our birthplace the Polo Grounds. There are stories on the 40th annivseray of the 1969 Amazin’s (by Greg Prince) and a great article by Howard Megdal on the Mets uncanny ability to finish in second place (that says it all about Mets fandom WE’RE #2!!!!)

Greg Spira and Matt Silveman have but the best sports annual out there so look for it at newsstands, bookstores or at the Maple Street Press web site

“DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM” I’M JEFFEY SKILL SETS DAMN IT

Busy busy day as we have our Christmas Party today at work so I’m knocking out something quick as the Salsa music will be full blast soon but remember tonight at 9PM its’ Pro Baseball Central with myself and Joe McDonald and we have plenty to talk about in the world of Mets especially that it looks like I’m not the only who has question the Skill Sets cash flow troubles as Jeffey had to answer a ton of questions yesterday as the Mets were showing off their latest acquisition Frankie Rodriguez.

I love this quote from Prince Jeffey about the cash on hand and whether the Skill Sets are broke:

["How is that possible? We have other money. Just because you guys don't know how much money we have, we have other money and other funds outside of (the Mets).

"It's called diversification."]

So according to Jeffey, losing a half billion ain’t shit as long as the new ballpark has turnstiles and we Mets fans line up for tickets the Skill Sets will still be farting through silk. Now the follow up question should have been “Do you have enough coin to improve your team”? Ok big mouth put up or shut up. I’ve come to grips that Manny will not be wearing a Mets uni but the big need is two starting pitchers so I expect to see a press conference soon to announce the signing of Derek Lowe. If it takes 4yr/60-65 mil then do it! Then get Randy Wolf for the 5^th starter spot and I swear I’ll lay off my ball breaking ways for at least a week. In fact I’ll volunteer to run a 50/50 raffle at all homes games to raise more capital.
