I guess I should be gracious and congratulated the Highlanders on not only winning the World Series but finally putting an end to this miserable baseball season, and thankful they ended before the season’s first snowfall.

For all of my fellow Mets fans who wanted Pedro Martinez on the team to fill a starters spot, and second thoughts? Even though Hideki Matsui has not had much success against Petey over the years, the way the at bat was going in the second inning you just knew Matsui was going to tag him. Matsui was like a boxer sizing up his opponent, jabbing, jabbing with foul balls, then just missing with a left but the jabbing again then going for the knockout with the home run.

The best line I read all morning came from Mike Vaccaro when talking about whether Charlie Manuel should have pulled Petey in third before Matsui plated two more runs with a single:

Everyone inside the ballpark knew that Martinez had no shot against Matsui, who’d gotten so many great swings in that first at-bat, Then he pulverized a Pedro pitch that barely fell foul down the right-field line, missing a bases-clearing double by inches.

It was here, if Pedro’s name was Pete Martin and he wasn’t a proud future Hall of Famer, Charlie Manuel might have said “Enough!” and gone with a left-hander like the warming J.A. Happ to try to finish the at-bat and keep the Phillies close. But this isn’t Pete Martin. It’s Pedro Martinez. And he tried to sneak a fastball past Matsui that wouldn’t stay snuck. A two-run single followed. And the first bursts of bedlam fell from the stands.

Remember the praise I gave McCarver after Game 1? Well I would like to retract the compliment as Mac-C transformed back into Tim McFullofshit the rest of the way.

Remember back, oh about nine years ago when Matt Franco was a Met? Wasn’t it known that his uncle was none other than actor Kurt Russell? And didn’t Russell parade around in a Mets cap during the 2000 World Series? But now that his “step-daughter” Kate Hudson is shacking up with Alex Centaur-riguez he’s cheering for the Highlanders like he grew up on the Grand Concourse. And what’s up with Rudy Giulliani and his wax figure wife (and that hair Geez Louise Judy G find a stylist will ya!) looking like a couple waiting for the early bird special. And why does Rudy squint like that all time making that rat face?

Now that the 2009 baseball season is over, let’s role up our sleeves and get to work we got a lot to do. Grab a shovel!!!!

Observations of Game 2 of the World Series from a conscientious objector:

Patients at the plate is a good thing but there comes a time when you have to change your approach. Last night the Phuck Phaces stayed a bit too passive as Pie Man was throwing first pitch strikes to just about every batter. When you see by the third inning that Burnett was on his game, it’s was up to the Phillie hitters to go up and attack that first pitch.

I should feel good for Petey and his performance last night but the spurned Mets fan in me is having a hard time doing that. What was Charlie Manuel thinking (or not thinking) when he let Petey go out for the 7th inning. Hasn’t he heard of Grady Little? You’d think Manuel would take the 6 strong innings for Petey and call it a day but it just goes to show Manuel, like Joe Girardi has no confidence in his bullpen.

Speaking of Manuel and Joey G, have there ever been two diverse personalities running clubs in a World Series? Ol’ Cholly, acts like he’s on a fishing trip in the Ozarks on the bench, shucking and jiving with old Mets coach Sam Perlazzo and giving his Bazooka gum a work out. Girardi on the other hand is tighter than a crab’s ass on the bench, he makes Buck Showalter look like Spicolli.

“You know you’re a douchebag when”…………….Your team is tied 1-1 in the World Series and you write a blog and the best post you can come up with the day after a game is this.

I can not believe no one is killing El Capitano for his mind numbing at bat in the 7th inning. I can see attempting to bunt on the first pitch but after that…are you kidding me?

Am I losing what’s left of my small mind but are Buck and McCaver actually doing a good job on the World Series telecast? As you see I have called them by their proper name instead of my nicknames for them (Doofus Joe and McFullofshit for you newbies) Buck has not subjected us to his forced hipster bullshit so far and McCarver has summoned his inner mid 1980’s when he was the Mets lead analyst with Ralph Kiner and long forgotten Steve (but down the Peroxide) Zabriski. Back in the day, McCarver was a analyst on any baseball telecast but then for some reason he became crotchety and so insufferable, the Mets dumped him. He seems no longer angry or is he messing up names and (I can’t believe I’m writing this) is really on his game so far. OH GOD I NEED TO LIE DOWN!!!!

Now that pre game show…………ughhhhhhhhhh what a disaster.

METS NEWS!!!!!

The Mets have made some moves that have fallen under the World Series radar the last few days that begs the question, Just why are Omar Minaya and Jerry Manuel coming back next year? As per Adam Rubin, the Mets have assigned the Bingo managers job to Tim (Shuffle) Tuffle and the St. Lonesome job to The People’s Cherce, Wally Backman. Ownership has also talked Sandy Johnson out of retiring and they are looking at hiring Bob Melvin to be Manuel replacement bench coach. That goes along with the hiring of Chip Hale as the new third base coach. Lame ducks? Shit, sititn’ ducks is more like it when it comes to Omar and Jerry.

The Orioles have given Melvin Mora his release. Even the 37 yr old Mora would be an improvement over Luis Castillo at 2nd base. Not my first choice but Mora would be in the mix.

Talk about a buzz kill, after Thursday ‘ game and the fact that the Mets took 3 of 4 from the Cards to pull within a half game of first place in the division, I was starting to wonder could this team play just good enough to stay in the race until August when we’re told the walking wounded should all be back in the lineup plus a chance that Billy Wagner could make his way back to the pen. Could it happen? Well, after last night’s cold water in the face, bringing me back to this awful place performance, it’s going to be mighty tough.

This one was over in the second inning as the Mets decided that the lineup they trotted out on the field wasn’t enough of a handicap that they had to help the Highlanders more by playing shitty defense to leave Big Pelf out to dry. The combination of bad D and having his nuts squeezed by home plate ump Tony Randazzo had Pelfrey close to meltdown mode. As Ron Darling pointed out on the telecast Pelf was showing emotion but he was still in control and after that awful second inning, pitched well but at 93 pitches through 5 innings and with two on and two out, and Pelfrey due up, Manuel sent up a pinch hitter which was the right call, the batter he sent up was Argenis Reyes and that was the wrong call.

When your lone right handed bat on the bench is Argenis Reyes he doesn’t see the batters box until the game goes to the bottom of 145th inning. Manuel does not have the luxury of matching lefty righty with this cut rate roster you have to go with your best hitter on that bench so in that spot you have to have Daniel Murphy hit for Pelfrey. I wonder if there was some subliminal message that Manuel was sending to the front office with that move?

If ever there was a game to close the clubhouse door and air out your team it was last night but J-Man didn’t do it. Last night in Toronto, after the Phillies lost to the Blue Jays, Charlie Manuel closed the clubhouse and laced into his club to get its head out of its ass. After the tongue lashing C-Man refused to speak to the media most likely going back to his hotel room with a big bottle of Canadian Club to wash away his frustrations. So which Manuel do you think is GANSTA’?

J-Man mentioned his roster depletion due to injury in his post game talk and it’s pissing me off that he keeps using that excuse as he needs to add a little Belichick to his game.

So now John Maine is getting a cortisone shot and will be shut down as he still has “discomfort” in his shoulder. Can we just send him to Birmingham to Dr Andrews already and get it over with? The Mets med staff is embarrassed one more time and the sad part is it’ll happen again.

The doctor who shot Michael Jackson with so much dope it killed him shouldn’t worry about a job I’m sure the Mets would gladly take him on their staff.

I agree with Gary Cohen, F-Mart is up here to play as a showcase for a trade.

MLB Trade Rumors had a link at deal with the Nats to send Nyjer Morgan to the Nats for Lastings Milledge. I wouldn’t mind going after Morgan if I’m the Mets.
