Tim Dierkes of MLBTrade Rumors has a post of the predicted whereabouts the top 50 Free Agents will land. His number one rank Free Agent is Matt Holliday has he sees the Mets making a big time signing here by going 5 to 6 yrs and over $100mil to land the coveted LF’er. This is in contrast with the Ken Rosenthal who had this in a column this weekend:

Â

The thought of free-agent left fielder Matt Holliday signing with the Mets is good for a chuckle. Some who know Holliday say he would prefer not to play in New York. Also, his power to right-center makes him a poor fit for Citi Field. The Mets would not be so desperate to upgrade in left if Fernando Martinez had justified talk that he might be a left-handed Manny Ramirez …

Â

Hey Ken , who’s Holiday’s agent ? Scott Bora$ right? Bora$ will have Holiday sign with the Tehran Burkamakers if the price is right. Who’s your source on this one, the same source who told you that no way C.C. Sabathia would never come to New York, Money talks, and bullshit is employed by FOX, dickhead.

Â

Dierkes also puts Randy Wolf and Brad Penny in Mets Blue and Orange. Wolf I can see but Brad Penny? Unless it’s to work as a bouncer at the Acela Club I don’t see it.

Â

Now that we amateur GM’s are ready to get down to business fortifying the Mets roster for 2010, the one item that is marked ESSENTIAL is The Bill James Handbook for 2010 (published by ACTA Sports). The Handbook is loaded with stats and leader boards that you would hope the front office is studying like it was the college boards.

Â

As bad as the Mets season has been there were a few (surprise) Amazin’s who were ranked in the top 10 in some important categories for the 2009 season like Angel Pagan:

Â

Â

Angel Pagan-4th in the NL for most Triples (11)

9th in NL Leadoff Hitters OBP (.358)

4th in NL OPS by CF’er

Â

If Pagan had some semblance of baseball instinct and the ability to stay healthy the search for the everyday LF’er would be a moot point.

Â

Digits like this and much more are in the Handbook. You can get your copy by going to Acta Sports or at the book store or online vendor of your choice. When you’re curled up by the hot stove this winter, your 2010 Bill James Handbook will leave you with that toasty feeling.

Seems the only disappointment in Philadelphia last night was the fact the city greased the light poles and stepped up the police presence on the streets that hurt Phuck Phace fans from celebrating “Burn Our City Down Night” after the Cheesesteakers Series win over the Hollywood Bums.

Â

Tonight on PRO BASEBALL CENTRAL I will be joined by Bill Bear of Crashburn Alley and we will discuss the NLCS victory and the World Series. Join us at 9PM EDT for the live broadcast. If you can’t listen live then check us out on our podcast at PBC or right here at Kranepool Society or download it on iTunes.

Â

I’m a bit pressed for time this morning but while prowling Baseball Reference, two players jumped out to me that the Mets should have on their radar. Ryan Rayburn and Marcus Thames of the Tigers. Rayburn plays both LF and 1B so a platoon with Daniel Murphy could be a low cost move that would pay a big dividend and Thames is strong bench player as an outfielder and right handed bat off the bench. Both have some power and shouldn’t be to costly to pry away from Detroit.

In fact I feel sorry for the Washington Nationals as they have no choice but to pick Stephen Strasburg because of all the hype and then they have to go through holy hell with Scott Boras to get him signed and hope he lives up to his advanced billing and pray to God he’s not another first round flop.

I love how people are telling Mets fans to pipe down on the Manny to the Mets talk, it either comes from media types who have no allegiance to the Mets expect that they cover them for a paycheck (that’s you Ed Coleman ) or some “anonymous” GM that most time is a figment of a writers imagination. The bottom line is the Manny makes the Mets a World Series contender and I will write about Manny every god damn day if I have to to get the Mets to sign him and plant in LF.

Joe McDonald has a slide show of pics showing the final days of Shea. It’s just a matter of weeks until Shea becomes a $tit Field parking lot.

Well what do you know, all was not well in Highlander universe during the rein of St Joseph of Torre. Can’t wait to read this book.

Could my wish of Bobby Jenks closing for the Mets come to frutition? According to John Perrotto at Baseball Prospectus the rumor mill is stoked with the Mets sending Fernando Martinez plus to the South Side of Chicago for Jermaine Dye and Jenks plus maybe a few other pieces. Â This deal is so good it can’t be real. Jenks will be 28 next season and is battled tested in post season play with a World Series ring to boot. Dye is the strong right handed bat we have been desperate for in the outfield. It also frees up trading Ryan Church for more pitching and puts Fernando Tatis in the super sub role and Dan Murphy the everyday LF’er.
