Don’t know much about RHP Carlos Monasterios, who was plucked from the Phuck Phaces by the Mets in today’s Rule V Draft.

Monasterios pitched for Clearwater in High A and for Reading in Double A last season. He’s 23 years old, 6′ 2″ 175 lbs and hails from Venezuela. From looking at his numbers last year, Monasterios looks like a spot starter/long man out of the pen, so he could be another candidate for the 5th starters spot with the Mets or at worse a middle reliever.

Monasterios pitched in 37 games combined last season complying a 5-6 3.73 ERA in 89.1 IP. Monasterios gave up 79 hits and walked 29 and K’d 75 with a 1.20 WHIP

So it seems like Carlos Monasterios is the best acquisition of the off season so far.

UPDATE: Mets selected RHP John Lujan from the Chicago White Sox with their next pick in the RULE V draft. Lujan is 6′ 1″ 200 25 yrs old relief pitcher who went 3-5 4.45 ERA in 37 games for Brimingham Double A. In 58.2 IP Lujan walked 28 and K’d 51

One more arm in the pen I guess

UPDATE 10:02 AM Forget Monasterios the Mets just dealt him to Dodgers

Now that the site is up and running again and that fact that I’m jonesing for a posting, lets call this a late night lighting round:

Once upon a time, Marco Scutaro was Mets bloggers favorite player, mostly due to his success in Triple A. I wish I had the posts I wrote from back then as I was calling for Scutaro to be brought up from Norfolk to play 2B for the Mets and when was called up, I thought I had some juice. It was my Big Balls moment.

But Scutaro played sparingly for two not very good Mets teams and it was about that time we were fed up with Robbie Alomar and felt Scutaro had the tools to takeover at 2B. But the Mets but him on waivers after the 2003 season and Billy Beane claimed him for the A’s and it set off a bit of a bloggers firestorm around these parts. Ahhhhhhhh good times!

Now Scutaro has signed with the Red Sox, a move made by” cut from the same Billy Beane cloth”, Theo Epstein to play shortstop for the Old Town Team. It’s good to see both me and Scutaro are still kicking around.

In another move to kick Omar Minaya in the nuts, the Mets have signed former Reds GM Wayne Kivsky to be an Asst’ GM. If you listened to our PRO BASEBALL CENTRAL show last week, Joe McDonald said he had info that the Mets have a plan in place if (when?) the Mets get off to a bad start, to ax Omar and J-Man and put a new GM and Mgr. in there place. Looks like the GM part of Plan B is in place.

First, Placido Polanco goes back to the Phuck-Phaces and now Chone Figgins signs with the Mariners. And Rogers Castillo sighs in relief.

The news I’ve been waiting to hear, the KC Royals are looking to move RHP Gil Meche and LF David DeJesus and both would look great on the Mets. Then I’d go trade for Aaron Harang and sign either Joel Pinerio or Jason Marquis to give myself a fighting chance to be a contender in 2010.

That’ it for now but I will leave you with something I posted on Facebook:

“Why do I have a feeling that the NY Mets will start the 2010 season like the NJ Nets? If there was a stock called “The Mets will suck in 2010″ I’d empty my bank account to buy it”

Observations of Game 2 of the World Series from a conscientious objector:

Patients at the plate is a good thing but there comes a time when you have to change your approach. Last night the Phuck Phaces stayed a bit too passive as Pie Man was throwing first pitch strikes to just about every batter. When you see by the third inning that Burnett was on his game, it’s was up to the Phillie hitters to go up and attack that first pitch.

I should feel good for Petey and his performance last night but the spurned Mets fan in me is having a hard time doing that. What was Charlie Manuel thinking (or not thinking) when he let Petey go out for the 7th inning. Hasn’t he heard of Grady Little? You’d think Manuel would take the 6 strong innings for Petey and call it a day but it just goes to show Manuel, like Joe Girardi has no confidence in his bullpen.

Speaking of Manuel and Joey G, have there ever been two diverse personalities running clubs in a World Series? Ol’ Cholly, acts like he’s on a fishing trip in the Ozarks on the bench, shucking and jiving with old Mets coach Sam Perlazzo and giving his Bazooka gum a work out. Girardi on the other hand is tighter than a crab’s ass on the bench, he makes Buck Showalter look like Spicolli.

“You know you’re a douchebag when”…………….Your team is tied 1-1 in the World Series and you write a blog and the best post you can come up with the day after a game is this.

I can not believe no one is killing El Capitano for his mind numbing at bat in the 7th inning. I can see attempting to bunt on the first pitch but after that…are you kidding me?

Am I losing what’s left of my small mind but are Buck and McCaver actually doing a good job on the World Series telecast? As you see I have called them by their proper name instead of my nicknames for them (Doofus Joe and McFullofshit for you newbies) Buck has not subjected us to his forced hipster bullshit so far and McCarver has summoned his inner mid 1980’s when he was the Mets lead analyst with Ralph Kiner and long forgotten Steve (but down the Peroxide) Zabriski. Back in the day, McCarver was a analyst on any baseball telecast but then for some reason he became crotchety and so insufferable, the Mets dumped him. He seems no longer angry or is he messing up names and (I can’t believe I’m writing this) is really on his game so far. OH GOD I NEED TO LIE DOWN!!!!

Now that pre game show…………ughhhhhhhhhh what a disaster.

METS NEWS!!!!!

The Mets have made some moves that have fallen under the World Series radar the last few days that begs the question, Just why are Omar Minaya and Jerry Manuel coming back next year? As per Adam Rubin, the Mets have assigned the Bingo managers job to Tim (Shuffle) Tuffle and the St. Lonesome job to The People’s Cherce, Wally Backman. Ownership has also talked Sandy Johnson out of retiring and they are looking at hiring Bob Melvin to be Manuel replacement bench coach. That goes along with the hiring of Chip Hale as the new third base coach. Lame ducks? Shit, sititn’ ducks is more like it when it comes to Omar and Jerry.

The Orioles have given Melvin Mora his release. Even the 37 yr old Mora would be an improvement over Luis Castillo at 2nd base. Not my first choice but Mora would be in the mix.

It’s been ten years since we as Mets fans have had to go through what looks to be the inevitable, two teams we despise look to be headed to the World Series. Not since 1999 when the Highlanders met the Braves, after they beat the Mets 4 games to 2 in the NLCS

(do we have to go through the whole Kenny Rogers walk to Andruw Jones scenario that tends to cloud the fact that Rosalita Lieter did not get out of the first inning…….no more I can’t talk about that game or that series anymore……..the pain….the agony……the defeat…..)

have we Mets fans been stuck with the lesser of two scumbag teams and have to decide which teams victory is the least painful for us, if it comes down to a Highlanders-Phuck Faces World Series. There is no rooting interest. What we have is which team do we hate the most and want to inflict the most pain on its fan base? Which team’ fans do we want to see so fucking miserable that they get angry enough to destroy their own ball park, burn cars, loot stores and turn on each other in an Un-Civil War? That my friends, has Philadelphia written all over it. For me, the lesser of the two evil bastards are the Highlanders. Beside I live in NYC I don’t want to see it destroyed. Philadelphia on the other hand that would be an improvement.

If it comes down to the Highlanders-Phuck Phaces in the World Series, you know there will be mass civil unrest in Philly that would make the Taliban look like an Adventure’s Club.

Look, either way we’re fucked. I work in downtown Manhattan, you think I’m going to work if there is a parade down Broadway ? Hell to the NO!!!!! So a Highlander win costs me a vacation day. But a Phuck Phace win causes me anger and just the thought of putting up with Phuck Phace fans, who are so bad they make Highlander fans tolerable.

Vacation days I have, paitent and understanding, nah never have, never will.

While the Highlanders, Halos, Phuck Phaces and Hollywood Hobo’s get ready for the LCS , we Mets fans still have some news of our own to contemplate:

Looks like Ike Davis picked a great time to put on a hitting display in the AFL. With the Brain (less) trust looking on, Ike delivered a monster Grand Slam HR and 6 Rib Eye Steaks to power the Surprise Rafters to a win. So off this performance Mets fans are now wetting their pants over Ike. Yes I know Daniel Murphy sucks you people let me know it just about everyday. I’m not disparaging Ike, in fact watching Ike play in Brooklyn even with his low offensive production; you could see that by his frame and his collegiate pedigree, he has the look of a power hitter. But let’s not jump in the sack yet with Ike Mets fans, let the young man work on his craft and hope that he can be the player we hope he can be. How many times can you have your hearts broken? And you know how nasty you people can be when that happens.

Mike Silva brings up the name Tim Hudson and the fact that the Braves are looking to cut loose from at $12 mil option the have with the recently Tommy John post-op pitcher. Silva brings up the Mets making an offer to Hudson to bring him into the starting rotation fold. I’d be for it at a make good price. Hudson is a proven front line pitcher and as we know, coming back from TJ surgery is no longer the flashing red light that used to be, so why not talk to Hudson for a 2yr deal with an option loaded with incentives?

I don’t get it, what it is with famous folks and paying taxes? You think I enjoy giving my hard earned bucks to the government? HELL NO! But I also know that I have a better chance reasoning with the mob than I do the IRS, whose agents have no problem coming into your home and hauling your ass out in handcuffs. So much for a Yale education. By the way, between Koos, Nails and now Mr. P the Skill Sets may have to but a wing of the Mets HOF in Levenworth.

New pitching flavor of the month, Jenrry Mejiea will throw in AZ today. At 20 years old there is word in the organization that Mejiea and his cut fastball could start the season n the Mets pen with an eye toward moving him into the rotation. I have an idea, if the Mets can not sign John Lackey or make a deal for a front line starter this winter, how about letting all the pitching personnel know that come spring training, there are four spots open in the starting rotation and may the best four pitchers win. Take a page out the John Torterella book and base jobs on performance and not by over priced contracts.
